WEEE Recycling Solutions for your business

With WEEE or ‘Waste and Electronic Equipment’ being a catch-all term for a range of appliances made of a broad spectrum of materials, we at ASL understand that WEEE recycling seems like a headache. For all businesses in the South West, Our consultants will provide you with a quick and easy consultation to schedule the removal your WEEE waste, cutting down the hassle for you and keeping costs as low as possible.

What does WEEE stand for?

WEEE stands for ‘Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment’. It comprises of smaller electrical waste goods (hairdryers, toasters, DVD players), IT waste (computers, printers, scanners) and larger appliances such as fridges, ovens, televisions and freezers. The majority of WEEE waste recycled in the UK consists of these larger items, however WEEE waste consists of most items that use a plug or battery.

At ASL, we seek to reuse and recycle as much of this WEEE waste as possible and can deal with all of the above waste types.

Why should I recycle my WEEE waste?

WEEE waste as of recently is one of the fastest growing sectors of recycling within the UK. The main reason for this has been the implementation of the The Waste Electric and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) Regulations (first released in 2006 and refined and extended in 2013), which require all businesses to adhere to certain standards of WEEE waste disposal. Because of these directives, you have responsibilities as a producer of electrical waste, and we have legal requirements as a carrier.  These regulations include the WEEE Directive, which seeks to minimize the amount of electrical waste produced and encourage the reuse and recycling of this waste stream.

As a result of these regulations, WEEE waste can only be treated and recycled by a facility that has been approved by the appropriate environmental agency, meaning that if disposing of WEEE waste you will be required to have your waste collected by a certified carrier and have it treated at an approved disposal facility.

That is where we at ASL come in. In the South West of England, we are on hand and perfectly positioned to provide you with collection and disposal of WEEE waste as a certified WEEE waste handler.  Cutting down the confusion over regulation, we can provide you with WEEE waste disposal and the required certification (a hazardous waste consignment note and duty of care certificate), whilst keeping the disturbance to you and your business at a minimum.

How will ASL collect my WEEE waste?

Once you have requested a quote (either by clicking on the link below or calling one of our expert waste consultants on the phone) a dedicated specialist from our team will assess your WEEE collection needs, through asking details such as the type of waste, the volume of waste  and your postcode. Following collection, ASL will then seek to reuse and recycle as much of your WEEE waste as possible, and finally, will provide you with the necessary certification (such as the Duty of Care certification) for your records.

What happens to my WEEE waste when it is recycled?

Due to the variation within this waste stream, there are a lot of different processes that can be followed when recycling WEEE waste, once you let us know about your WEEE waste, one of our specialist WEEE consultants will be on hand to evaluate what is needed to dispose of your WEEE waste. Once this evaluation is completed,  we will take your WEEE waste to an Approved Authorised Treatment Facility local to the South West, where it will be weighed and assessed. Following this, any hazardous materials will be removed (for example those found in a computer monitor), and the parts stripped down to be recycled individually.
